Description: Moore's law predicted the doubling of the number of devices integrated on a chip every two years. This empirical law has been surprisingly accurate for a number of years and only now shows a decay due to the physical limits to integratidn that are by now almost reached. In 1978, the largest chips had 100K transistors in 1987, the largest chips in production have a number of devices that is above 1M. Technology has allowed designers to integrate, on a single chip, more and more complex functions.
