Cet ouvrage collectif évalue le bilan de la présidence de Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, entre le moment où cet inconnu, maire ultraconservateur de Téhéran, devient le président de la République islamique d'Iran en août 2005 et le nouveau scrutin de juin 2009, qui peut renouveler ou mettre un terme à son mandat. Ce bilan est mitigé. Certes, la flambée des cours de l'or noir a permis à ce " serviteur du peuple " de tenir un discours populiste et même d'injecter massivement le revenu pétrolier dans la société. Mais pendant ce temps, l'inflation s'est envolée, la production a chuté faute de capitaux nationaux qui ont préféré la fuite et des investisseurs internationaux qui se sont repliés. Le chômage a fait des ravages. Le pays s'est isolé sur la scène internationale et s'est vu surtout visé non seulement par les sanctions, mais également les menaces d'attaque contre ses installations nucléaires. Les auteurs analysent les différents aspects économiques, politiques, sociaux et diplomatiques du bilan de Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pendant cette période qui l'a fait passer de l'anonymat à la célébrité.
