"This is a truly outstanding and long awaited release, as the present Japan concert is most certainly Chet's best filmed performance ever. He seems to be in good shape and mood here, and plays and sings beautifully, backed by Harold Danko's amazing piano. Nothing here seems to foretell Baker's death, which would happen less than a year later. The program includes both classic standards Chet had recorded in his early years (and continued performing since), like the perennial "My Funny Valentine" or the opener "Stella by Starlight", some tunes by Baker's favorite Jazz star, Miles Davis, and a few tunes he had added recently to his repertoire, like Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue". Chet displays his magic and the extraordinary sensibility that characterized him throughout this exquisite performance."
