Extraordinary consideration has been given by the Islamic Law to women's affairs. Such consideration is sufficient to protect her chastity, to honor her and to secure her position in life. The "restrictions" placed upon her regarding her dress and the display of her beauty and ornament is only to guard against all ways of corruption arising from such dazzling displays. What Islam has established is not a restriction on the freedom of women but is a firm protection for her from falling down to the lowest levels of humility.

I am sad when I read what you write. It is obvious that the style is characteristic of the religious
victims of the sects with which one prints in the brain, as of more early childhood, when the being

A few reasons why religions are invented
----------------------------------------

1.) Explanation

In the beginnings, when there was no culture of science or investigation, no knowledge about the way things work, people needed to fill the gap. Talented storytellers and word of mouth did the rest. One can still observe this when stupid people are asked by their children, don't know the answer and simply make something up. Furthermore, as we can still see today, it's much easier and therefore common practice to have «no idea of nothing, but an opinion about everything». It's easier, more entertaining and more romantic to invent stories and say «I think» (or more correctly, «I believe», because people don't try to really think very often) than to engage in the hard labour of collecting evidence, analyzing facts and draw logical conclusions -- which might turn out to be inconvenient.


2.) Excuse

During their charades, the frau..., eh, holy men discovered the popularity-increasing effects of accessories, rituals, celebrations and carrots 'n sticks in various manifestations. Still functions in the 21st century: something works out as desired -- Allah is great, God merciful and Zion in a good mood. Things go south -- a punishment for earlier failures or for not honouring the gods enough. That's great for any shamane, druid or priest whose stupid attempt of a treatment just killed the chieftain's son. The fact that nobody can prove or verify what the medicine man claims to have heard directly from the Great Manitou is priceless.


3.) Entertainment

With lives full of hard labour, no trade unions, no free weekends, no TV, no music, theatre or any other form of distraction, the performances of the shamanes, rain dancers or whatsoever were the only thing that brought a little variation into the daily routine. Also, the performing arts require certain and different talents than sow, plow and reap, talents that few people possess, which alone already gave the scam... eh, spiritually enlightened oracles a special role/position in their small society.


4.) Control

Sooner or later, some talented story teller, or a clever observer who watched them, must have realized the potential of power and influence that they could have over their audiences, who trusted their explanations simply because they were better performers and their stories more exciting/interesting than others. It is merely a logical step to use that influence to tell people what to do, once somebody realized that he didn't even have to draw his sword as long as the more simple minded members of the group feared a bigger fist. Customer oriented, rulers and priests gave them what they longed for: the politicians because there is no other way to control people without enormous expenses for military and bureaucracy in an age before Echelon and data bases, the mullahs and monks because it is way more convenient to bless others who leave for the hunt than running after bear and mammoth themselves. A match made in heaven, the ruler would be promoted as «authorized» by the clerics, and in turn protect the black-skirts from revolts or uproars, enforcing the submission under the system in case some sheep should go astray and dare to think for themselves.

While few people would deny that some kind of bond exists between the body and the mind and that meditation or other forms of a mental focusing (prayer) can have an effect on physical or psychological performance, it's a personal effort. The problem is that religions claim to be the only one to be right and all others wrong, playing the missionary with sword and fire and forcing and manipulating everybody else into their limited thinking patterns. True enlightenment would mean wisdom, live and let live, tolerance and freedom, but that would neither benefit organized religious groups like churches and sects, nor their political allies.

All this and more becomes pretty obvious once religions are compared, analyzed and studied like any other historical artifact, instead of blindly and automatically repeating what the one we happened to be born under hammers into people's heads. Nevertheless, since the deities can only be heard by those who pret..., eh found the spiritual path to be hearing them, any quarrel is pointless. Everybody is free to believe what they want -- at least as long as religion isn't granted the power to take this freedom away.

Books like the above are a waste of trees, because the simple test that fundamentals can never afford and never allow to be made is the one of freedom of choice: given options and the freedom of choice, would a reasonable, educated human being choose to be the servant of their father, brothers or uncles just because of a coincidence of birth (gender)? Where the possibility to choose exists, women always, without exception, choose not to run around in a black bag, they prefer to choose their husbands themselves instead of being exchanged for a few goats and camels, they choose to have a life instead of a misery. SO do women in moderate islamic countries, as well as educated, open-minded men, without being lesser servants of Allah.

If the mullahs hadn't washed your brains out, think for yourselves: if it was the other way round, would you choose to be the life-long servant of your mother, aunts and sisters? Would you choose to be hidden away for life, to not be allowed to have an opinion, participate in public life, etc., etc.? And if you don't choose to be a 2nd class human being, why would you impose such a destiny upon others?

FUndamentalism is bullshit, and all the convoluted bullocks in books like the above won't change it.
