Why this book?

I have been the webmaster of No-porn.com since 1997. To commemorate this website's tenth anniversary, I was urged to write a book that outlined what had been most helpful in my own recovery from pornography. The result was “Ten Keys to Breaking Pornography Addiction.”

“Ten Keys to Breaking Pornography Addiction” outlines the ten principles that I believe are most helpful in overcoming addiction to pornography. Today, “Ten Keys” helps thousands of men and women understand how their addiction works, how it controls them, and how they can reclaim their lives. It has helped the newcomer just starting to admit that porn is a problem, and the guy who has struggled for years to stop but is convinced that nothing will ever work. It has also helped wives and partners who are trying to better understand their loved one’s hurtful behavior.

I get emails almost daily praising the book:

I have been overwhelmed by the response to “Ten Keys.” I’m not a trained therapist. I’m just a guy who spent almost my entire life struggling with an addiction that started because I was curious about sex when I was a child and my friend and I thought we could find the answers in his brother’s porn magazines. Not unlike millions of other kids around the world.

That set the stage for a nearly-life-long battle with an addiction to pornography. But in 1997 I started No-porn.com while I continued to struggle with my own compulsive desires and behavior. What started as a little web page grew into a thriving community of men and women supporting one another through the devastation of pornography addiction.

Somewhere in the process, I found sobriety and recovery.
Finding Sobriety:

It took me years to understand these very simple principles, but when you’re living in addiction, sometimes you just can’t figure it out on your own. “Ten Keys” provides clarity and some very simple techniques that have helped thousands to reach their recovery goals. It can do the same thing for you.

Many of us are so determined to figure it all out on our own. But I made absolutely no progress until I was willing to learn from others: from therapists, from other addicts and from books. “Ten Keys” encompasses many of the great teachings I’ve learned from people whom I now consider to be my recovery heroes. I received one Key from a brilliant author, another Key from a friend, another Key from a therapist, and so on. Soon I had my own “key ring” of ideas that unlocked the chains. They can help you find the freedom you seek as well.

This is not some magic formula that promises you’ll be sober by page 80. It is a map, but it is not the car. It can show you the way, but it can’t drive you there. However, it can help to prepare you for what is, frankly, a very challenging journey. Challenging, but rewarding. As someone who never uses pornography or masturbates now, I can honestly say, I had no idea how wonderful and happy a sober life could be.

I truly believe, and hundreds of emails and other private messages concur, this book provides hope, encouragement and clear steps that can help you win this battle.
