Description

Many systemic disease such as cancer, hypertension, leukemia, HIV, and diabetes are often manifested in the oral cavity. In addition, some conditions and therapies used to treat systemic disease have effects on the teeth and mouth. Virtually any medical condition may affect dental treatment and vice versa. This guidebook outlines the more common medical conditions and what dental practitioners should know when managing patients with conditions such as cardiovascular disease and arthritis, and/or who are being treated with medications such as chemotherapy agents.
