Haywire was a 13-issue limited series published by DC Comics from October 1988 to September 1989. The title character was not part of the regular DC Universe. It was written by Michael Fleisher, drawn by Vince Giarrano and inked by Kyle Baker. The central character is a young male who has blackouts, for which he regularly visits a psychologist. Unbeknown to the male, he has an implant which 'attaches' him to a powerful suit of armour developed (and lost) by the military, who are desperate to get it back. Whenever he gets emotional, or threatened, the suit teleports onto his body. They send soldiers in similar (but poor copies) suits after him (when he is in his 'Haywire' guise), along with a succession of experts fighters, including a woman with a whip, called 'Barbwire'. They also want to capture him, as he is the only successful candidate who has survived the implantation process without dying or going insane. When he is in his 'Haywire' persona, he does not remember his human past.
